The San Antonio Spurs’ playoff aspirations took a significant hit on Thursday following a report by ESPN’s insider Shams Charania, stating that center Victor Wembanyama will be out for the remainder of the season due to deep vein thrombosis—a severe blood clot—in his right shoulder.
Just a day prior, the Spurs had shared that Wembanyama was doubtful to play against the Phoenix Suns at the Moody Center in Austin due to an illness.
Deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms in deeper veins of the body, often the result of vein injuries or slowed blood flow. These clots can partially or fully obstruct the flow of blood in the affected vein.
In his second year, Wembanyama is posting impressive stats, averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, and 3.7 assists, after being the top pick by San Antonio in the 2023 NBA draft. His outstanding performance this season earned him his first All-Star selection.
