Golden State Warriors standout Stephen Curry was benched during the second half of Thursday’s thrilling 117-114 victory over the Toronto Raptors due to a pelvic contusion, according to the team’s announcement.

Curry was driving into the paint with 3:32 remaining in the third quarter when he leaped and collided with two Raptors defenders while passing to Jonathan Kuminga, who attempted a three-pointer from the corner. Curry took a severe fall on his back after the collision.

As he lay on the court in visible distress, medical staff attended to him. Despite the pain, Curry managed to walk off the court unassisted, taking a seat on the Warriors’ bench before ultimately heading to the locker room.

Following the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr revealed that Curry was scheduled for an MRI.

“He was hopeful about re-entering the game,” said Kerr. “We opted not to take any chances. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious.”

Teammate Draymond Green expressed concern, describing the incident as a “frightening moment.”

“When he hit the ground, the impact was loud,” Green recalled to journalists after the game. “It was intense. A really scary moment for all of us and for him. Hoping for the best.”

Curry contributed 17 points over 25 minutes of play.

The Warriors are off the court until they begin a six-game road expedition in Atlanta starting Saturday.
