President Donald Trump is swapping the presidential office for the UFC Octagon this Saturday night. He’s scheduled to attend UFC 314 in Miami, where Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski will face Brazil’s Diego Lopes for the featherweight title. Joining him will be ally Elon Musk and a select group of aides, as confirmed by a White House official to CNN.

This visit to the late-night fight symbolizes Trump’s reemerging presence in American pop culture as he leverages his presidential status to attend high-profile sporting events. It also underscores his longstanding relationship with the UFC and its CEO, Dana White, alongside the connection between the mixed martial arts realm and the young men who helped him regain the presidency.

Aside from frequent visits to his Mar-a-Lago estate in South Florida, Trump’s domestic travels have been infrequent during his second term. Yet, since assuming office, he has flown on Air Force One to attend significant events like the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the Daytona 500, and the NCAA men’s wrestling championships in Philadelphia.

His enthusiastic reception at these events highlights his drastic shift, from a widely mocked figure in American pop culture to the respected celebrity status he enjoyed during his “Apprentice” era.

“President Trump and the UFC are cultural icons. He’s an avid sports fan and deeply admires the competitive spirit of all the athletes who enter the Octagon,” said White House communications director Steven Cheung to CNN.

Cheung further remarked, “He’ll be sitting cage side, as usual, and the audience will burst into applause as he makes his hallmark entrance.”

Trump, who has long depicted himself as a “fighter,” successfully engaged the male-centric podcast sphere during his 2024 campaign, thereby enhancing his appeal among low-engagement voters. His campaign leaned heavily into interviews with hosts like Joe Rogan from Barstool Sports’ “Bussin’ With The Boys” and Andrew Schulz’s “Flagrant,” delivering listeners extended, unfiltered discussions.

Many podcasts targeting male audiences frequently delve into topics like physical fitness and traditional masculine traits, often sharing a profound enthusiasm for mixed martial arts, particularly UFC.
