President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on Saturday a significant find of 75 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in the Black Sea.

“We’ve uncovered a new gas reserve of 75 bcm in the region, sufficient to satisfy residential energy needs for roughly 3.5 years,” Erdoğan declared during his speech at the inauguration of the Istanbul Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital.

He went on to detail the successful completion of drilling at the Goktepe-3 well, initiated by the 7th-generation drilling vessel Abdulhamid Han on March 27.

Erdoğan underscored the Turkish government’s commitment to achieving energy self-sufficiency. “We will persist tirelessly and remain unbowed in the face of challenges or criticisms until Türkiye achieves full energy independence,” he asserted.
