Warriors Face Familiar Challenges: Jonathan Kuminga Injured During Game

The Warriors found themselves in a familiar situation during the second quarter of their Sunday game against the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center. Golden State’s forward, Jonathan Kuminga, headed to the locker room after taking a hard fall by the basket. This incident eerily resembled an injury that star point guard Steph Curry experienced nearly two weeks prior against the Toronto Raptors. At halftime, the Warriors announced Kuminga would not return, citing soreness in his right ankle. Unlike Curry’s pelvic contusion from the previous incident, Kuminga wasn’t granted a foul call when knocked down driving to the hoop. Though he was seen mouthing “I’m OK” after the fall, he gingerly walked to the locker room with Drew Yoder, the Warriors’ director of medical services.

Kuminga had only recently returned to play, being in his ninth game since recovering from a 31-game hiatus due to a sprain on the same ankle. This season, the 22-year-old has averaged 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. After his March 13 return against the Sacramento Kings, his stats slightly altered to 14.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists over eight games. It’s uncertain how much Kuminga’s previous ankle injury worsened, but Dub Nation is undoubtedly hoping for a swift recovery for their young talent.
