Whoop has unveiled its latest innovative slate of wearables, debuting the Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG on Thursday. These cutting-edge devices come with three membership plans—Whoop One at $199, Whoop Peak at $239, and the premium Whoop Life at $359. Enhanced with sleeker design, improved battery life, and expanded in-app health metrics, these devices are set to redefine fitness tracking. CNBC had the opportunity to test the Whoop MG in advance of its release.

Engineered for continuous wear, both new devices boast an impressive 14-day battery life, a significant upgrade from the four-to-five-day duration of the previous Whoop 4.0 model. Additionally, the latest version is 7% more compact with a processing power that’s 60% faster. “We’ve distilled a decade of insights to create a platform that helps our members sustain peak performance,” remarked Will Ahmed, Whoop’s founder and CEO.

This launch represents Whoop’s most substantial hardware overhaul since the 2021 Whoop 4.0 release. With the new devices, users can discover how their daily habits influence their performance and long-term health outcomes, as highlighted in a company statement.

Cost and Membership Tiers

Whoop’s membership plans provide various options: Whoop One at $199 includes the Whoop 5.0, Whoop Peak at $239 also features the Whoop 5.0 with additional capabilities, and Whoop Life at $359 comes with the advanced Whoop MG. Extra bands and accessories are available for an additional charge.

Available for purchase online starting Thursday, Whoop 5.0 and MG memberships offer numerous insights. Whoop One members can track metrics such as sleep, exercise strain, and recovery, as well as cardiovascular and muscular health. Additionally, members can monitor menstrual cycles and pregnancies.

With Whoop Peak, users unlock advanced features including a Health Monitor for instant insights on vital statistics such as respiratory rate, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and skin temperature. It also includes a real-time stress monitor and guided breathing sessions for relaxation or increased alertness.

A newly introduced feature is Healthspan, offering nine metrics to determine an individual’s Whoop Age and aging pace. Whoop Age compares your physiological state to your chronological age, while Pace of Aging evaluates the rate of aging influenced by lifestyle. Updated weekly, Healthspan provides actionable recommendations for improvement, developed in collaboration with the Buck Institute for Research on Aging.

The top-tier Whoop Life membership provides access to medical-grade features via Whoop MG. This includes ECG recordings to identify irregular heart rhythms like AFib or abnormal heart rates; recordings are shareable with healthcare providers. Approved by the U.S. FDA, the ECG is suitable for users over the age of 22 without pacemakers or implanted devices, available initially in the U.S., UAE, and Qatar.

Whoop Life members can also gain daily insights into blood pressure, with estimated systolic and diastolic ranges. Initial setup requires a conventional cuff reading, and while not for direct medical use, it provides useful feedback to users. This Blood Pressure Insights feature, currently in beta, has been in development for several years.
