Wisconsin cut short Michigan State’s journey in the Big Ten Tournament on Saturday, clinching a 77-74 victory in a nail-biting semifinal clash. The Badgers sealed the win with strategic defense in the final seconds, securing their slim three-point edge and thwarting the Spartans’ attempt to force overtime.

In the game’s final moments, Wisconsin guard John Tonje missed two crucial free throws, offering Michigan State a chance to tie the score with a three-pointer. However, Tonje redeemed himself by deftly intercepting a pass just as Jeremy Fears Jr. prepared to launch the potential game-tying shot.

After the final buzzer, several Spartans appealed to the referees for a foul, but replays validated that Tonje’s decisive block was legitimate and the officials’ decision to refrain from calling a foul was spot on.

Throughout the match, both teams were evenly matched, with Wisconsin leading by a narrow four points at halftime. Although Michigan State continually chipped away at the Badgers’ lead in the closing minutes, Wisconsin managed to pull ahead each time. Despite the Spartans’ relentless efforts to capture the win in the tense final seconds, the Badgers’ defense held firm.

Tonje delivered an outstanding performance, topping the score sheet with 32 points and contributing seven rebounds. On the Spartans’ side, guard Jase Richardson led with 21 points, while teammates Fears and Holloman added 14 and 10 points, respectively.
