Alison Brie and Dave Franco are entangled in a copyright lawsuit concerning their independent horror movie “Together,” which was acquired for approximately $17 million following intense bidding at Sundance. The lawsuit, initiated on Tuesday, alleges that the film is a direct imitation of “Better Half,” another independent movie released in 2023. The legal document asserts that “Together” appropriates the unique concept involving a couple who become physically intertwined, along with several key plot points and thematic details, including a near-direct reference to Plato’s Symposium.

The lawsuit further accuses the creators of “Together” of being aware of “Better Half” as its pitch was rejected back in 2020 by the same producers and their agents at WME. After witnessing “Together” during Sundance, they claim their fears were confirmed upon noting the pronounced similarities. The plaintiffs argue that the defendants intentionally orchestrated a plan to replicate their film and allege that Brie and Franco declined the initial offer with the intention of producing the film independently, with WME’s help in packaging it with one of their own writers.

In response to the lawsuit, a representative from WME dismissed the claims as “frivolous and without merit.”
