Six Flags has officially announced the November closure of its amusement parks, Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor, located in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The company cited that these parks no longer align with its long-term growth strategy. Despite opening for the season on April 21, the parks will mark their final day of operation on November 2. According to the statement, around 70 permanent employees will be affected, but eligible staff will receive severance packages and benefits.

“This choice was challenging, and we acknowledge its consequences for our Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor team members and guests,” expressed Richard Zimmerman, President and CEO of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, in a statement released Thursday. Six Flags assured that season tickets and passes for 2025 will still be honored during this concluding season. “These parks have been a vital part of the community, and this last season is a time to celebrate the decades of joy they’ve provided,” Zimmerman emphasized.

The company revealed that following a thorough review of various options, they concluded redevelopment of the approximately 500-acre site will “maximize value and return on investment.”
