Former REO Speedwagon lead vocalist, Terry Luttrell, aged 78, was involved in a significant car accident following the legendary band’s farewell concert. On Sunday, June 15, Luttrell nodded off while driving in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, just a day after the band performed at the State Farm Center, he recounted to The News-Gazette. “I managed to get out of the car,” Luttrell shared with the publication. Despite escaping, Luttrell sustained injuries, noting, “the airbag deployed and caused a slight fracture in my sternum.” He also mentioned experiencing “some back and neck pain,” but assured from Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana that “it’s nothing that can’t be managed.”
Sadly, his vehicle did not survive as well as he did. “It just happened,” Luttrell recounted. “I drifted off. The car rolled over, and I woke encased in the airbags. Unfortunately, it resulted in the car being totaled.”
On Saturday, June 14, both present and former members of REO Speedwagon reunited for an unforgettable retrospective concert. The lineup included co-founding keyboardist Neal Doughty, co-founding drummer Alan Gratzer, bassist Bruce Hall, vocalist Mike Murphy, and guitarist Steve Scorfina, alongside Luttrell, as reported by Ultimate Classic Rock. However, vocalist Kevin Cronin was not part of the event.
