Nine months after the dramatic conclusion of her first trial, where the jury could not reach a verdict, Karen Read is back in court, accused of murdering her boyfriend, a Boston police officer, in Canton three years ago. This case has gripped national attention, evolving into a true-crime sensation. Allegations claiming a police cover-up have rallied Read’s supporters, who gather outside the courthouse fervently declaring her innocence.

The prosecution alleges that in the early hours of January 29, 2022, Read, in a drunken fury, backed her Lexus SUV into John O’Keefe after leaving him outside a house on Fairview Road following a night out at the bars. His lifeless body, partially covered in snow, was discovered on the front lawn around 6 a.m. when Read returned with two other women to search for him.

On the other hand, Read’s defense insists she is being set up. Her legal team argues that after O’Keefe entered the house, he was brutally beaten and possibly bitten by a German Shepherd, and that his body was later placed on the front lawn to frame her. Her first trial concluded with the jury unable to reach a unanimous decision in July. Read remains free on bail as she awaits a new trial.
