Milwaukee Bucks standout Damian Lillard had to exit early during the first quarter of Sunday night’s Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers due to an injury to his left leg. Initial assessments suggest a possible Achilles tendon issue, according to a source familiar with the situation who spoke to The Associated Press. Lillard is slated for an MRI on Monday, which is when the Bucks anticipate gaining clarity on the extent of the injury, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The injury occurred as Lillard attempted to secure an offensive rebound midway through the quarter. After tapping the ball away from a Pacers player, he fell to the floor, clutching his left leg and remained down even as play continued. During the next stoppage, he was helped to his feet but needed assistance leaving the court, unable to support any weight on the injured leg. He was then escorted to the locker room and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Lillard had already missed the final 14 games of the regular season due to deep vein thrombosis in his right leg. He made a comeback in Game 2 of the series against the Pacers after a month out, a recovery that was described as unprecedented by the team. However, Lillard had struggled to find his rhythm in the series, averaging just 10.5 points and 6.0 assists, with a shooting percentage of 24% (making only 6 of 25 shots) in the first two games. Before leaving Game 4, he had missed both of his shot attempts. Currently, the Bucks are trailing 2-1 in the series against Indiana.
