Two Minnesota lawmakers were injured in a shooting early Saturday morning, with the attacker reportedly posing as a police officer. Sen. John Hoffman and Rep. Melissa Hortman, along with their spouses, were victims in this incident, sources informed FOX 9. Both lawmakers are affiliated with the Democratic Party. The shootings took place in Champlin and Brooklyn Park.

In an alarming sequence of events, Sen. John Hoffman and Rep. Melissa Hortman, together with their partners, were shot by an individual impersonating law enforcement, as confirmed by sources to FOX 9’s Karen Scullin.

As of this moment, the health status of the victims remains unclear.

Rep. Hortman, hailing from Brooklyn Park, serves District 34B. Meanwhile, Sen. Hoffman, representing Senate District 34, is based in Champlin. Both are members of the Democratic Party.

Authorities are currently on the hunt for the suspect involved in multiple targeted shootings. Described as armed and dangerous, the suspect is a white male with brown hair, seen wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants, potentially impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Residents are warned to avoid confronting the suspect and to alert 911 immediately if sightings occur. People in the area are advised not to open their doors to someone posing as a police officer unless accompanied by two officers, or to verify the officer’s identity with a call to 911. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that an investigation is in progress, with Brooklyn Park serving as the lead agency.
