Naomi Osaka recently gave fans a glimpse into her fitness journey as she gets ready for the clay court season. This marks her return to action since her defeat in the round of 16 against Jasmine Paolini at the Miami Open back in March. The 27-year-old tennis sensation is diligently gearing up for what historically has been the most challenging part of her year. With determination and vigor, Osaka is set to conquer new milestones at the Madrid Open, looking to transform this clay season into her best yet.

This year has posed its fair share of challenges for Osaka, bringing on some frustrating moments in her 2025 campaign. Starting the year strong by reaching the ASB Classic final, her journey took a hit when an injury forced her to retire after just the first set. Unfortunately, a similar situation arose at the Australian Open, where she had to bow out against Belinda Bencic. Her appearances at Indian Wells and Miami saw mixed outcomes, with an early exit in California but a promising run to the fourth round in Florida.

After taking nearly a month off from the courts, Osaka has devoted time to intensively prepare for playing on clay. Feeling rejuvenated and eager, she expressed her readiness to dive back into competitive play. “Yes, physically everything is fine,” Osaka shared with Tennis Majors. “I’m really excited because I feel stronger and I believe I can endure longer matches now.”

The tennis world was taken by surprise when Osaka enlisted Patrick Mouratoglou as her coach in 2024 after parting ways with Wim Fisette, who is currently coaching Iga Swiatek. Initially uncertain about the move, Osaka has since forged a robust partnership with Mouratoglou, who has significantly bolstered her confidence and self-belief. “I think he brings me a lot of confidence,” Osaka mentioned. “I’ve always been a bit shy and insecure—it’s quite a harsh word, but true. I often underestimate myself. However, he builds me up and provides reassurance, leaving no room for doubt. For me, that’s immensely important.”
