The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced a mutual decision to part ways with Head Coach Mike Sullivan, a move confirmed by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas. “On behalf of Fenway Sports Group and everyone in the Penguins organization, I extend our deepest gratitude to Mike Sullivan for his unwavering dedication and loyalty to both the team and the City of Pittsburgh over the past decade,” expressed Dubas. “Mike is renowned for his meticulous preparation, intense focus, and competitive spirit. Over the last two seasons, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing his steadfast commitment to this franchise firsthand. His contributions to Penguins’ legacy are monumental, not just for the consecutive Stanley Cup victories or his influence on key players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Bryan Rust, but particularly for his deep affection and loyalty to the organization. This choice was not made lightly, but as the Penguins embark on a period of transformation, we believe this is the best way forward for all parties involved.”

Sullivan was promoted from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL to become Pittsburgh’s head coach in December 2015. He subsequently led the team to successive Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017. With 409 victories under his belt, Sullivan set the record as the Penguins’ all-time wins leader and stands as the 14th coach in NHL history to achieve 400 wins with a single team. The Penguins will launch a comprehensive search for a new head coach immediately.
