Spotify users worldwide encountered an unexpected hiccup as tens of thousands found themselves unable to stream music on the app.

Reports flooded Downdetector, a site that monitors online platforms, with over 20,000 users indicating Spotify was down starting at 13:30 GMT on Wednesday afternoon.

The disruption affected not only users in the UK but also audiences in the US and various parts of Europe.

In response to the issue, Spotify informed the BBC that “the problem with Search has been resolved” and an update was being deployed to rectify the situation.

However, it remains unclear how quickly normal functions will be fully restored for all users.

Spotify boasts more than 675 million global users.

While some could still play songs previously downloaded on their devices, they experienced problems accessing artist profiles or utilizing the search feature.

Attempts to search for tracks resulted in the app timing out, accompanied by an error message stating, “something went wrong,” and a prompt to refresh the page.

The company acknowledged the disturbances on social media, assuring users that they were investigating the matter amidst mounting complaints.

Many users took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the outage and its interference with their daily activities.

Some urged the platform to expedite repairs as they were unable to use Spotify during workouts, while others highlighted the disruption to study sessions, requesting swift solutions.

Notably, the incident prompted several to consider switching to alternative streaming services like YouTube or Apple Music.
