It didn’t take long for tempers to flare in the playoff game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Indiana Pacers. Given the competitive nature of these teams, was anyone really surprised? With less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter of Game 2 on April 22, a scuffle broke out involving the Bucks’ Gary Trent Jr. and the Pacers’ Bennedict Mathurin, resulting in technical fouls for both players.

The commotion began when Trent snatched a ball that Pacers’ Pascal Siakim was vying for, causing Siakim’s momentum to land him on the ground. Evidently unhappy with Trent’s aggression, Siakim quickly got to his feet to confront him. Bucks’ Bobby Portis intervened to act as a buffer, but tensions continued to rise. Pacers guard TJ McConnell also stepped in to try and separate Siakim. After reviewing the play, officials called a double technical on both Trent and Mathurin, as well as a loose ball foul on Trent.

At the time of the altercation, the Pacers were leading the Bucks, 36-24. Throughout the game, the aggressive play persisted, with Bobby Portis Jr. of the Bucks and Pascal Siakim of the Pacers later receiving double technicals amid an exchange between Tyrese Haliburton and the players. This marked Siakim’s second technical foul of the series. In Game 1, an off-the-court confrontation led to Haliburton exchanging words with Lillard, who didn’t play then but still received a technical for his involvement.
