President Trump disclosed on Saturday that a ceasefire had been agreed upon by India and Pakistan after four days of intense conflict between the two nuclear powers, marking the most significant confrontation in decades. “Following an all-night discussion mediated by the United States, I am delighted to reveal that India and Pakistan have consented to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump declared on Truth Social, praising the nations for their “Common Sense and Great Intelligence.” Both Indian and Pakistani officials confirmed the agreement on social media, although only Pakistan acknowledged the American mediation. “We are grateful to President Trump for his direction and proactive role in ensuring peace in the region,” Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on social media.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio released a statement revealing that he, along with Vice President JD Vance, had been in talks with senior officials from both nations, including their prime ministers, over a 48-hour period. Aside from the ceasefire, the countries have also considered “commencing discussions on a broad range of issues at a neutral location,” according to Rubio. However, India’s foreign ministry disputed Rubio’s account, asserting that the ceasefire was directly negotiated between India and Pakistan, without any decision on other discussions at neutral sites.

The latest crisis erupted last month following a deadly attack by militants on tourists in the Indian-controlled region of Kashmir. India accused Pakistan of sheltering the terrorist groups responsible for the attack and vowed retaliation. Pakistan rejected these accusations. Tensions escalated into military conflict on Wednesday after India launched airstrikes into Pakistan. The following days saw intense combat featuring drone and missile attacks. By Saturday morning, both nations were targeting each other’s air bases, further intensifying the situation.
