Michelle Trachtenberg, a beloved US actress, passed away due to natural causes related to complications from diabetes, as confirmed by the New York City medical examiner’s office.
At just 39 years old, Trachtenberg was discovered “unconscious and unresponsive” in her New York City residence this past February.
Although a post-mortem was not performed, officials stated that toxicology tests revealed the cause of death.
She gained widespread recognition for her role as Dawn Summers, Buffy’s younger sister, in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer.’ She later portrayed the cunning socialite Georgina Sparks in the hit series ‘Gossip Girl’ during her adult years.
Trachtenberg’s family, practicing Orthodox Jews, reportedly opposed an autopsy on religious grounds.
With no evidence of foul play, the medical examiner chose to respect the family’s wishes and did not conduct an autopsy.
An insider disclosed to NBC News that the actress had undergone a liver transplant prior to her demise. However, details about the procedure’s timing or rationale remain undisclosed.
Fans were stunned by the actress’s unexpected passing.
Trachtenberg first became a household name as a child star, debuting in several Nickelodeon ventures, including the movie ‘Harriet the Spy.’
In the early 2000s, she garnered numerous acting nominations, including a Daytime Emmy Award nod for her performance in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer.’
Her film credits also boast titles like ‘EuroTrip,’ ‘Ice Princess,’ ‘Killing Kennedy,’ and ‘Sister Cities.’
In the wake of her passing, heartfelt tributes poured in from her fellow actors.
Blake Lively, Trachtenberg’s ‘Gossip Girl’ co-star, praised her dedication by saying, “In everything she did, she gave 200%.”
“She laughed heartily at others’ jokes, was deeply committed to her craft, unwaveringly loyal to friends, and courageous for those she loved. She was big, bold, and unapologetically herself,” Lively expressed on social media.
