Michigan’s own Jack White strikes gold on his second attempt. Both he and Meg White, as The White Stripes, are set to join the prestigious ranks of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Originating from Detroit in 1997, the duo delivered six studio albums from 1999 to 2007. Initially nominated in 2023, they finally clinched their spot tonight during an announcement on “American Idol.” The 2025 Rock Hall class also proudly welcomes newcomers like Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Bad Company, and Outkast alongside Cyndi Lauper, earning her second nomination, and Soundgarden on their third attempt.

Awarding musical innovation and impact, Salt-N-Pepa and the late Warren Zevon will be honored with the Musical Influence Award. Furthermore, the late record producer Thom Bell, pianist Nicky Hopkins, and bassist Carol Kaye will be recognized with the Musical Excellence Award. This year’s induction ceremony is set to take place in Los Angeles this autumn. Also in the running for this class were luminaries like The Black Crowes, Billy Idol, Maná, Phish, Mariah Carey, Joy Division/New Order, and Oasis.

Voting for the nominees was conducted by a panel of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry experts. They assessed candidates based on “an artist’s impact on other musicians, the breadth and endurance of their career and body of work, as well as their innovation and excellence in style and technique.” In the previous year, iconic figures such as Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band, and Peter Frampton were honored with inductions into this esteemed institution.
