Zelle is facing a service disruption, impacting users’ ability to transfer money through their banking institutions. According to Downdetector, as of 1:56 p.m. ET on Friday, there were 772 reports of issues with the digital payment service’s network. Responding to the situation, a Zelle spokesperson informed CNET that the problem stems from a third-party provider. “We are aware that users of certain financial institutions are currently unable to utilize Zelle,” the statement explained. “We are collaborating closely with our partners to resolve this issue promptly. In the meantime, Zelle users might notice their transactions labeled as ‘payment pending.’“

Zelle operates as a peer-to-peer payment system, allowing users to send and receive money through accounts linked to a phone number or email. Despite shutting down its standalone app last month, Zelle continues to provide its digital payment services through over 2,000 banks, including giants like Bank of America and Chase.

If you find yourself needing to send or receive money while this service is unavailable, consider turning to alternative payment platforms, such as Apple Pay, Cash App, or Venmo.
