Faulty Reporting on Israel by CNN's Christiane Amanpour: A Recurring Issue

Christiane Amanpour of CNN has had her fair share of controversies regarding her reporting on Israel. Notably, two years ago, she publicly apologized for mistakenly reporting that an Israeli mother and her two daughters had perished in a “shootout” with a terrorist.

Despite this, it seems Amanpour has not entirely moved past such missteps. In a fresh video shared on CNN’s TikTok and YouTube “Shorts” channels, she inaccurately stated that an Iranian ballistic missile landed “near a hospital” in Beer Sheva.

In truth, the missile directly hit Soroka Medical Center, demolishing the hospital’s surgical ward. Luckily, a last-minute decision to evacuate the surgical ward just a day before prevented a tragic outcome.

Following this attack, the Iranian regime launched a wave of propaganda, initially claiming that the missile was aimed at a technology park almost a kilometer away. They later released blatantly fake maps to argue that an Israeli military installation was mere steps from the hospital.

It is crucial for CNN to provide accurate information, particularly amid conflicts. Misreporting incidents like Amanpour’s only serve to advance the Islamic Republic’s misinformation efforts.

After receiving feedback from CAMERA, CNN commendably updated the video, now clarifying that the missile barrage “struck a hospital.” An editor’s note at the conclusion of the video has been added, clarifying that: “This video has been updated to reflect Iranian missiles directly striking a hospital in Beer Sheva, Israel.”

CAMERA praises CNN for quickly making this correction.
