General Motors is initiating a recall for almost 600,000 Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles because of a potential issue with the engine that could result in significant damage or complete failure. This recall, which was first brought to the attention of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on April 24, involves 597,630 vehicles in total. Specifically, it affects 126,027 Cadillac, 174,208 Chevrolet, and 297,395 GMC models.
The vehicles in question may have manufacturing flaws in their connecting rods and/or crankshaft components, potentially causing engine damage and failure. Drivers could detect early warning signs such as knocking or banging noises from the engine, the activation of the check engine light, or other performance issues like irregular shifting, hesitation, or diminished propulsion.
This recall pertains to the following models equipped with a 6.2L V8 gasoline engine: the 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, the 2021-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and the 2021-2024 GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL.
Owners of the impacted models can bring their vehicles to any Cadillac, Chevrolet, or GMC dealership for a complimentary engine inspection and, if necessary, repair or replacement. For those vehicles that pass inspection, a new oil fill cap, a replacement with higher viscosity oil, an oil filter swap, and an owner’s manual update will be provided at no cost.
Notification letters will be sent out to owners on June 9, 2025. For further assistance, Cadillac owners can call 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet owners can reach out to 1-800-222-1020, and GMC owners can contact 1-800-462-8782 using the recall number N252494000. Additionally, car owners can verify the status of their vehicles by entering their information into the NHTSA recall database or checking the recall section on USA TODAY’s website.
