When readers contact us about cable or internet outages, they’re typically confined to a specific area. However, this situation appears to be an anomaly. Roughly half an hour ago, our CenturyLink connection unexpectedly failed in Upper Fauntleroy. Initially, we suspected a nearby worker might have accidentally disturbed a cable. Soon, we started receiving messages from readers, primarily in Gatewood, and the most recent one came from someone at California/Dakota.
Social media posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) indicate that this issue extends beyond just Seattle. The official CenturyLink account is responding to these reports, stating they’re investigating a “possible disruption.” Strikingly, the CenturyLink website is also down, showing a 503 error, as noted by a commenter. We continue to receive messages from various parts of West Seattle, with some users reporting that Quantum is also offline.
Despite the widespread nature of this outage, CenturyLink has yet to release any official statement via X, and their website remains inaccessible. Commenters are exchanging a potential workaround that’s making the rounds on social media, though we cannot verify its effectiveness. For now, we’re relying on Comcast/Xfinity to ensure business continuity.
