Thursday night was eventful for the New York Giants as they secured two potential cornerstone players for their future. Initially, with the third pick of the NFL draft, they selected Abdul Carter from Penn State, hoping he’ll rise to become a formidable pass rusher. Excitement continued to build at the Giants’ camp when they maneuvered back into the first round to grab their possible franchise quarterback.

The Giants orchestrated a deal to acquire Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart at the 25th pick. To achieve this, they traded away their 34th overall pick, along with the 99th pick and a future third-round selection in 2026 to the Houston Texans. Dart enters a competitive quarterback room already featuring veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Meanwhile, Carter will enhance a defensive front that showcases talents like Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Bobby Okereke.

Shortly after Carter’s selection, Giants’ General Manager Joe Schoen confirmed the decision to exercise the fifth-year option on defensive end Thibodeaux, quashing any rumors of his potential trade departure. Schoen had hinted earlier that the team might pull another significant move before the night ended, and he indeed delivered by opting for Dart over another promising quarterback, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, who remained available.

The Giants invested months in scouting Sanders, yet ultimately placed their faith in Dart, who had a standout season leading Ole Miss with 4,279 passing yards and 29 touchdowns, pushing his team to a 10-3 finish. Entering the offseason, addressing the quarterback position was the Giants’ top priority, as asserted by owner John Mara. With Dart now in their ranks, the organization is hopeful they’ve identified their quarterback of the future.
