A Wednesday night rainout at Wrigley Field is set to intensify the rivalry between the Cubs and the Brewers later in the season. As Chicago aims to dethrone Milwaukee as the National League Central leaders, they’ve now added a five-game series in August to their schedule. The game, originally set for 7:05 p.m. CT, was postponed due to persistent rain and will be played as part of a split doubleheader on August 18 at the iconic Friendly Confines. The doubleheader will see the teams compete at 1:20 p.m. and again at 7:05 p.m., kicking off a thrilling run of five games over four days.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell shared that veteran pitcher Jameson Taillon, who was supposed to start on the rain-canceled Wednesday night game, will now pitch in the 1:20 p.m. matchup on Thursday to conclude the current series. Taillon, boasting a 7-3 record and a 3.48 ERA, is in impressive form for Chicago, with a 5-0 record and a remarkable 1.91 ERA in his last five outings.

At the moment, the Brewers have not disclosed their starter for Thursday’s game following the postponement. They are considering rookie Jacob Misiorowski and seasoned Freddy Peralta as candidates. Misiorowski, ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the Brewers’ pipeline, was expected to start Wednesday night, while Peralta was lined up for a Thursday face-off against the Cubs. Making headlines in his MLB debut against the Cardinals on June 12, Misiorowski delivered five no-hit innings before a minor injury forced him to the sidelines. The 23-year-old dealt with right quadriceps and calf cramping and also rolled his right ankle but managed to clock over 100 mph on 14 pitches, racking up five strikeouts and four walks. Peralta, a familiar foe to the Cubs, has a career 7-2 record with a 2.93 ERA in 19 games against them. This season, the 29-year-old right-hander holds a 2.60 ERA, with 84 strikeouts across 83 innings in 15 starts.

When the teams meet in August, the series will be part of a grueling stretch for the Brewers, with 19 games packed into an 18-day period. Meanwhile, the Cubs, currently leading the NL Central, will face 14 games in a 13-day span due to the added doubleheader. Fans attending the August 18 doubleheader will need separate tickets for each game and must vacate the park after the first matchup. Those using MLB’s Ballpark app for mobile tickets will automatically see updates for the rescheduled game. No ticket exchange is required. Additionally, fans who missed out on picking up the Hello Kitty special-ticket offer due to the postponement will have the opportunity to collect it on the new game date of August 18.
