New York Giants’ rookie pass rusher Abdul Carter was on the receiving end of a prank call during the NFL draft, as revealed by his agent Drew Rosenhaus to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

The call occurred on Thursday night when the Jacksonville Jaguars were on the clock after trading for the No. 2 overall pick from the Cleveland Browns in a stunning deal. The prankster, posing as someone from the Jaguars, informed Carter that he was their choice for the second pick.

“It’s regrettable that these private numbers are being accessed by those behind the prank calls,” Rosenhaus remarked to Schefter. “Abdul and I immediately realized it was nonsense and didn’t even bother informing his family about it.”

Eventually, the Jaguars did not select Carter; they picked Travis Hunter instead. Carter was later chosen at the No. 3 spot by the Giants.

On Wednesday, the NFL imposed fines on the Atlanta Falcons, totaling $250,000, along with a $100,000 fine on their defensive coordinator, Jeff Ulbrich. This action was taken following a prank call made by Ulbrich’s son to Shedeur Sanders, the current quarterback for the Browns, during the draft.

While the NFL continues to investigate other prank calls made to draft players, it stated that these incidents are unconnected to the call received by Sanders.

Among the other players who received prank calls during the draft were the Browns’ Mason Graham, the Indianapolis Colts’ Tyler Warren, the Philadelphia Eagles’ Kyle McCord, and the Buffalo Bills’ Chase Lundt.
