ARLINGTON – The Yankees are eagerly awaiting Aaron Judge’s return to help halt their troubling slide. They ended up extending their losing streak to four games on Monday night with an 8-5 defeat against the Rangers, surrendering a lead in the ninth inning.

New York fell short after Yankees reliever Jake Bird gave up a decisive three-run, walk-off home run to Josh Jung in the 10th inning, marking a disappointing start to the series at Globe Life Field.

Despite losing, first baseman Paul Goldschmidt provided a much-needed spark. Breaking out of his slump, he began the game with a homer, followed by a double in the second inning and a single in the fourth, contributing to New York’s tally with three of their five runs. Giancarlo Stanton also made an impact with a massive 427-foot home run to dead center in the fourth inning.

Starting pitcher Max Fried struggled through five challenging innings, but the Yankees’ bullpen managed to hold onto their slim lead until closer Devin Williams allowed a game-tying homer to Rangers’ struggling pinch-hitter Joc Pederson, who came into the game batting just .126 over 169 plate appearances this season.

New York’s relief pitching lineup included a scoreless inning each from Luke Weaver, Camilo Doval, and David Bednar before Williams, who has now tallied his third blown save of the season, let the lead slip in the final moments.
